Last-Minute Change Ahead of Major Migrant March in Toronto: New Gathering Point and Route Announced for TS2023 Campaign!
Ahead of the major TS2023 Work Permit Extension Campaign march taking place in Toronto this weekend, David Pecaut Square has been announced as the new gathering point instead of Nathan Phillips Square (NPS). The committee released details of the new 3.3 km route, urging Toronto participants to follow the updated green-coded announcements.
TORONTO – The TS2023 Campaign, launched to demand a temporary extension of legal work authorizations for Turkish and Syrian citizens who arrived in Canada following the devastating February 2023 earthquakes, is gearing up for a massive nationwide solidarity march this weekend (June 27–28).
Just hours before the historic demonstration in the heart of the city, the organizing committee released a critical last-minute update specifically for Toronto. Due to overlapping major events in downtown Toronto this weekend (such as the Pride festival) and logistic coordination with local authorities, the initial gathering point and march route have been fully updated to ensure a safe, smooth, and peaceful demonstration.
A Swift and Flexible Solution to Bureaucratic Delays
According to information from committee officials, the management of Nathan Phillips Square (NPS) denied access to the square for Sunday, citing weekend crowd density, and left Saturday's request in limbo by withholding a formal response. Refusing to let the community's right to march be compromised by bureaucratic delays, the organizing committee took swift action to design an approved, highly visible, and strategic 3.3-kilometer alternative route.
Katılımcılar will now officially gather at David Pecaut Square (King St W & John St).
Updated March Route for Toronto (3.3 km)
The demonstration will begin on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 PM at David Pecaut Square with community visibility and preparation efforts. The march will officially commence at 1:00 PM, following this precise track:
-
Start: David Pecaut Square (King St W & John St)
-
Route: Proceeding east on King Street ➡️ Turning north on Bay Street ➡️ Turning west on College Street ➡️ Continuing toward Queen's Park Crescent.
-
End: Queen's Park North.
Important Logistics Note: The march will strictly utilize sidewalks, remain entirely west of Yonge Street, and completely bypass University Avenue. Upon reaching the final destination at Queen's Park North, a one-hour demonstration and press statement will take place before a peaceful dispersal.
"Follow the New Green-Coded Visuals"
To avoid confusion and prevent anyone from heading to the wrong locations, the committee strongly urges all Toronto participants to immediately check their community channels for the new green-coded gathering maps and route graphics.
