TS2023 Community Launches Nationwide MP Email Campaign as Parliament Returns, Urging 24-Month Work Permit Extension
The TS2023 community has launched a nationwide campaign urging members to email their Members of Parliament and share a 14-page policy brief calling for a 24-month extension of temporary status and open work authorization, as the House of Commons returned for its fall sitting on September 21.
The TS2023 community has launched a nationwide email campaign calling on its members to contact their Members of Parliament and request meetings to present a 14-page policy brief seeking a 24-month extension of temporary status and open work authorization. The campaign coincides with the return of the House of Commons for its fall sitting on Monday, September 21.
The TS2023-Brief-General report, addressed to MPs, the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM), the immigration minister and senior IRCC officials, is backed by a new 293-household survey covering 743 people. It found that 80.2 per cent of participating households hold permits that have already expired or will expire by the end of 2026; 84 per cent said their current employment could continue if permits were extended; and community records report more than 350 Canadian-born children in the TS2023 community.
The brief argues that TS2023 open work permits — issued for up to three years after the February 2023 earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria — have never received a general renewal; only the application window, not the validity of permits already issued, was extended in September 2023. It requests a limited, one-time extension at standard application fees, stressing that the ask is not automatic permanent residence but legal continuity while families pursue available pathways.
The campaign follows the government's June 12, 2026 response to House of Commons petition e-7288 — sponsored by MP Sima Acan and bearing 8,089 verified signatures — which declined a 24-month extension and a dedicated permanent residence pathway.
